Photo Shooting - Too Much Reality in Mixed Reality?
نویسنده
چکیده
Can and should Mixed Reality (MR) be applied to all kinds of applications? Are there cases that are not suited for tangible interaction, e. g. violent games? Violence in games is certainly a technically simple, easy to comprehend, and conceptually effective way to foster player interaction, but how far are we willing to go with tangible interfaces? The game Photo Shooting plays with the analogy between shooting a photograph and shooting a gun. It is a MR game for two players. Both players try to shoot objects of a certain color with their gun cams. The first player to score a hit wins. While the game’s title, the graphics and the action may suggest violence, in the end, all that is done is taking pictures. The game’s aim is to spark a discussion between players about the role of the mimetic representation of violence in games and may serve as possible base for an emperical evalutation. Based on Huizinga’s game theory, some arguments are shortly outlined here.

Investigating the efficacy of brain training by using virtual reality and real shooting on the shooting skills of students of a military university
Background and Aim: High quality, fast-paced and cost-effective training of novice military personnel is a major concern in most armed forces around the world. Hence, implementing psycho-technological findings is important in the armed forces. This study aimed to investigate and compare the efficacy of brain-training (neurofeedback) and virtual-reality training through the use of actual and vir...
متن کاملAn Application of Photo RealisticWater Surface Interaction Using Mixed Reality
The Reality of Virtual Reality is affected by many research areas. Therefore, individual researches must be combined to achieve the extreme goal of Virtual Reality. In this paper, we present an application of the novel and clever combination of height field wave simulation, photo realistic rendering, and a 6DOF manipulator exploiting Augmented Reality. In our system, a user can touch a virtual ...

This paper [1] introduces ARQuake, a modification of id Software’s first-person shooter, Quake. Equipped with a head-mounted display and GPStracked laptop backpack, ARQuake players can move across the University of South Australia campus, shooting monsters as they go. ARQuake is particularly relevant to this project as it was one of the first serious attempts to create a mixed reality computer ...
متن کاملInteractive mixed reality rendering in a distributed ray tracing framework
Photo-realistic rendering methods are required to achieve a convincing combination of real and synthetic scene parts in mixed reality applications. Ray tracing is a long time proved candidate, but when it comes to interactive frame rates GPU based rendering has usually been preferred. Recent advances in distributed interactive ray tracing suggest to explore also its potential for mixed reality ...
متن کاملStereo Camera Tracking for Mixed Reality-Based PreViz of Stereoscopic 3D Cinema Using ICP Algorithm
This paper presents a method of real-time 6-DOF stereo camera tracking using ICP algorithm used in our mixed reality based previsualization (PreViz) system for stereoscopic 3D filmmaking. We eliminate the time-consuming preparation processes required for improving the accuracy in our previous work. On the assumption that the camera repeatedly passes along a path roughly determined at the rehear...
